2018 Award Winners
December 7th 2018 - On December 2nd we announced our 2018 award winners at our SFPGA Junior Tour Championship presented by The Honda Classic. We awarded 5 juniors with very special awards they each earned throughout the year. These awards included the Honda Classic Most Improved Player, Ed Ficker Sportsmanship Award, and the Don Law Service Award.

The Honda Classic Most Improved Player award was given to two individuals who have made incredible strides in their golf game throughout the year. This award was given to Laura Lou of Miramar and Boca Raton native, Carson Parker. Andrew George, the Tournament Director of the Honda Classic, came out and presented the award to these two juniors. In the past year Laura Lou has placed runner-up in three of our Championship Tour events and had a scoring average of 75 this year. Carson Parker has improved his game tremendously this year capturing 1st in one of our Championship events and improving his scoring average to a 76.

The Ed Ficker Sportsmanship Award is given annually to one boy and one girl who exemplify great qualities in a junior, on and off the golf course.  These two players are always in a great mood no matter what they shot during the round and always aim to make everyone around them smile.  It has been a pleasure to have these two on our Tour. There are no two juniors more deserving of this award than Chase Scholze and Kelli Kragh. Congratulations to these two junior golfers.

Don Law, PGA has dedicated his life to not only teaching juniors the game of golf, but to giving back to the game he loves.  His passion for helping junior golfers reach their dreams and his impact on the South Florida community is unmatched.  The Don Law Service Award was created to recognize junior golfers who demonstrate leadership, character and community service through their involvement with the South Florida PGA Foundation as well as other charitable endeavors. This year the Don Law Service Award was given to Rafe Cochran. Rafe has partnered with “Food for the Poor” and has raised over $100,000 to build homes in Haiti and schools in Jamaica. We are proud to present this award to Rafe for his service and efforts to better the communities around him.

Congratulations to our award winners and all of our members on an outstanding 2018 season. We also want to thank all of our members, parents and golf professionals for another great season. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in 2019 and another great year.
