Junior PGA Championship

OVERVIEW

The South Florida Junior PGA Championship is one of South Florida’s Junior Majors. This 36 hole stroke play event is designed to highlight South Florida’s top male and female junior golfer. In order to participate in the South Florida Junior PGA Championship, all players must first qualify through one of three local qualifiers. Successful qualifiers will pay no additional fee to participate in the South Florida Junior PGA Championship. Players will receive a premium tee gift at the tournament as well as lunch following play after each round.

The overall boy and girl winner will advance on to the National Junior PGA Championship.In 2017these events took place July 18th-21st (Girls Championship) and July 31st-August 3rd (Boys Championship) at The Country Club of St. Albans in St. Albans, Missouri. The National Junior PGA Championship is one of the premier junior events in the United States. This event is administered by the same team who conduct the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup.

Boys & Girls 9-12 Age Division

The boys and girls 9-12 age division will only play 18 holes on Tuesday, June 13th. The winner of the 9-12 age division will be eligible to win awards but not eligible to move on to the National Junior PGA Championship. Any boy or girls under the age of 12 who would like to attempt to qualify for the national tournament must play in the 13-18 age division during the qualifier.

AGE DIVISIONS

  • Boys 9-12/Girls 9-12: $55.00 (18 holes one day – June 14th) (*Can not advance to National Junior PGA Championship)

  • Boys 13-15 / Girls 13-15: $100.00 (36 holes)

  • Boys 16-18 / Girls 16-18: $100.00 (36 holes)

QUALIFIERS

All players will need to qualify to attend the South Florida Junior PGA Championship. There will be three (3) qualifiers held throughout the section, and players will be required to participate in 1 of the 3 qualifiers. It is suggested that the players register for their nearest qualifying location.

 

The number of players who qualify per site will be determined by the number of players in each field.

A total of 84 players in the 13-18 Divisions will play in the Championship, along with 12 players from 9-12.

* Exemptions into this year’s section Junior PGA Championship will be granted to the following individuals based on exemption guidelines: 

Winners of the 2015 & 2016 SFPGA Junior PGA Championships in the Overall Division, as well as the 2016 Players of the Year for the Overall Divisions in the Challenge and Championship Tour and the winner of the Birdie Club fund raiser from 2015.

**Only boys and girls competing in the 13-18 age divisions will be eligible to qualify for the national event.  Players under the age of 13 may “declare up” to be eligible to qualify and are required to play from the same tees as the 13-18 age divisions.  If any player under the age of 13 would like to attempt to qualify for the national event or compete in the 36 hole event must sign up for the 13-18 age division.

In conjunction with the Palm Beach County Golf Association, the South Florida PGA will administer the Nicklaus Junior starting in 2018.

The event will be held June 28-29 at Lost Tree Club in North Palm Beach.

OVERVIEW

The South Florida Junior Open is one of South Florida’s three Junior Majors. The South Florida Junior Openwas the first 54 hole event conducted on the South Florida PGA Junior Tour. The South Florida Junior Open is an invitation only to players who meet the requirements below. This event is designed to bring a major atmosphere to junior golf in South Florida, while also providing a great getaway at the beautiful newly renovated Naples Beach Club in Naples, FL.

About the Naples Beach Club
The Naples Beach Club is a four-diamond resort on the shores of Naples, FL. The Golf course at the Naples Beach Club is one of the best in Florida. The course has been dramatically renovated and is just reopened this year! The resort enlisted acclaimed golf course architect John Sanford in collaboration with the legendary Jack Nicklaus and Nicklaus Design.

How To Qualify
The field will be composed of 120 players based on invitation only.

– Top 40 Championship Tour Player of the Year Boys (as of May 1st, 2017)
– Top 20 Championship Tour Player of the Year Girls (as of May 1st, 2017)
– Top 25 Challenge Tour Player of the Year Boys (as of May 8th, 2017)
– Top 15 Challenge Tour Player of the Year Girls (as of May 8th, 2017)
– Top 5 boys in the 2017 South Florida Junior PGA Championship
– Top 5 Girls in the 2017 South Florida Junior PGA Championship
– Six Sponsor Exemptions based on committee discretion
– Top 15 Boys and Girls on the Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings in Florida

The Field will be cut to the low 50 Boys and low 34 Girls for the final round

*If the field fails to reach over 96 players, there will be no cut for final round*

2017 Jr. Tour Championship

The 2017 Tour Championship will require season long qualifying to participate. Qualifications will be determined based on Player of the Year Points earned throughout the year. The number of spots available for each age division will be decided based on the percent of total members of the Junior Tour in that division as of November 15th. The Tour Championship will be a 60 player field of Championship Tour players, and a 60 player field of Challenge Tour players.

For the SFPGA Junior Tour Championships, the top 60 players off of each Player of the Year roster will be eligible to compete for either Championship. If a player has earned an invitation to both Tour Championships based on his performance during the season, the Championship Tour status will take precedence over his Challenge Tour status. A player who finishes the season competing on the Championship Tour, but earns an invitation to the Challenge Tour based on his performance on that tour throughout the season, will be eligible to compete in the Challenge Tour Championship.

Qualifications & Event Details:

  • The 110 players receiving invitations will be based on Player of the Year Points
  • The additional 10 spots will be determined based on committee decision
  • Invitations for this event will not be distributed until November 22nd for the Challenge Tour and November 8th for the Championship Tour (following final events of the season)
  • Cost to play in the Championship will be $125 including lunch both days and a deluxe tee gift
