South Florida PGA Prep Tour Faces Tough Test in Second Event
March 7th 2021 - The SFPGA Prep Tour held its second event of the season to a sold-out field at Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne, east of Miami on Sunday.
 
The field of girls and boys ages 9 to 18 battled through a windy day at the course with Thomas Nevico, Sebastian Ayala and Thomas Nevico placing in a tie for first with a score of 83 for the Boy’s 13-18 Division. Nevico, who birdied the first and 18th holes of his round, took home the win after a scorecard playoff.
 
On the girl’s side, Dariana Breto carded an 83 to win the girl’s overall 13-18 Division. Breto’s round included a birdie on the par-4 ninth hole to go out in 42 and help secure the win. In the girl’s 11-12 Division Alexandra Phung fired a 76 for the low female round of the day and to take her age division. Phung birdied the Par-3 sixth to pace her 38 on the front nine.
 
In a round that included three birdies, Brendon Gelnaw shot an 80 to win the boy’s 11-12 Division and Gordon Nip fired an impressive 73 for the low overall round of the day and to win the boy’s 9-10 Division. Nip’s round included birdies on holes 1, 3, 9 and 18.
 
The South Florida PGA Prep Tour is the intermediate tour for junior golfers who are in between the Links and Challenge Tours. The Prep Tour will return to action on April 10th at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach.
