FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

All juniors participating in the Links, Prep, or Medalist Tours are required to become members of the SFPGA Foundation.

Membership is an annual fee, valid from January through December, and provides access to more than 100 Junior Tour events throughout the year. Members also receive a deluxe membership kit, including a golf shirt, hat, and golf bag.

Membership is designed to provide juniors with opportunities to compete, learn, and grow both on and off the golf course.

As outlined in the Junior Tour Handbook, individuals are ineligible for membership and competition prior to their sixth (6th) birthday and upon their nineteenth (19th) birthday or attendance at a college or university.

Members will be assigned to an age division based on their age as of the start date of each tournament. Members will be moved from one age division to another as they reach the applicable age for the new division.

Registration for all SFPGA Junior Tour events opens at 10:00 a.m. EST on the registration open date listed on the tournament information page.

Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Field size and availability vary based on tour level.

All Prep Tour, Medalist Tour, and Junior Major events are ranked by our junior tour partner, The Universal Golf Rankings (TUGR).

All Medalist Tour events and 36-hole Junior Majors are nationally ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) and the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).

Our 54-hole Junior Majors receive national rankings in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), in addition to JGS, AJGA, and TUGR.

• Research the eligibility requirements listed in our handbook to make sure your junior golfer is old enough and is shooting scores from yardages that would be competitive at the next level 
• Contact to the South Florida PGA Staff to see if your junior golfer is ready for the next level
• Consult with your junior golfer's PGA Professional for their advice if your player is  are ready to move up to the next level

Links Tour

• Links Tour players in the 6-8 and 9-11 age divisions are allowed to have a caddie. Caddies are encouraged to help speed up play by assisting players with their clubs and strategizing each hole. Caddies are not there to slow down play by instructing the participants, but instead help when needed. Click here to watch our caddie orientation video.

Prep and Medalist Tours

• ​Spectators are asked to stay on cart paths at all times and at least 50 yards from players while on the golf course
• Refrain from speaking with players during the round as this may be interpreted as advice (two-stroke penalty)
• In case of weather, spectators are asked to assist with evacuating players from the course to the clubhouse
• Spectators may not transport players on the golf course unless noted on the Notice to Players

Once a tournament is full, all players that then register will be placed on the waiting list. Players on the waiting list will be placed into the event on a first-come, first-served basis according to space availability in their age division. 

A joint initiative founded in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association and The PGA of America, Drive, Chip and Putt is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf.

By tapping the creative and competitive spirit of girls and boys ages 7-15, Drive, Chip and Putt provides aspiring junior golfers an opportunity to play with their peers in qualifiers around the country. Participants who advance through local, sub-regional and regional qualifying in each age/gender category earn a place in the National Finals, which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament and is broadcast live by Golf Channel.
