Iglesias and Sakchawanpob Win Junior Tour Event at Santa Lucia

This past weekend 69 juniors took to the course for the Junior Tour event at Santa Lucia River Club. Players endured tough wind conditions both days on top of a challenging course layout.

Natthawat Sakchawanpob of Boca Raton carded rounds of 72 and 75 to win the overall boys 13-18 division title by one stroke over fellow competitors Chris Calvani and Tomy Jaunet. Sakchawanpob posted three birdies during his two rounds. In the overall girls 13-18 division, Zoey Iglesias of Port St. Lucie took home the win with an eight-over-par. This is a first-time win on the SFPGA Junior Tour for Iglesias. Iglesias was the only competitor to break even during the tournament carding a 71, one-under-par round on the second day.


Tomy Jaunet of Port St. Lucie won the boys 16-18 division title in a scorecard playoff against Calvani. Jaunet carded three birdies in his first round. Mayumi Umezu of Port St. Lucie concluded the tournament with rounds of 80-79 to win the girls 16-18 division title.


Matthew Golovanov of Boca Raton took home the boys 13-15 division title after a scorecard playoff with Sam Brown. Golovanov and Brown tied with a total of five-over-par but it came down to the final six holes for these two. In the girls 13-15 division, Ariana Silva of Fort Lauderdale carded rounds of 77-79, four strokes ahead of Sabrina Kim.

Over the weekend, the South Florida PGA Toptracer Prep Tour hosted two events. The tournament drew over 150 young golfers to two prestigious courses in the hot south Florida sun. The first event kicked off at Pointe West Country Club in Vero Beach on Saturday and the second tournament was at the West Bay Club in Estero on Sunday.

The South Florida PGA Toptracer Prep Tour event was held this past Sunday at Indian River Club. The event displayed exceptional talent and skill with standout performances from Mia Heuberger-Dominguez and Flynn Lewis, who stole the spotlight. Among a competitive field of young golfers, Heuberger-Dominguez and Lewis emerged as the champions in their respective divisions, with the lowest scores of the tournament.

Over the weekend, the Callaway Medalist Tour took place on PGA National's Fazio Course. This was a two-day, 36-hole event and the first of four qualifiers for the South Florida Junior PGA Championship. The windy conditions over the weekend made the Fazio course at PGA National play difficult. However, Pavel Tsar of Palm Beach Gardens and Brayden Jenard of Jupiter were able to card under-par rounds. Jenard opened the tournament on Saturday with five birdies during his front nine, and finished the round as the solo leader, setting pace with a 4-under, 68. Tsar came fighting back on Sunday after a two-under 70 to open his weekend. His final-round 68 helped him to finish three shots of Jenard (73) to win the Boy’s 13-18 Division. In the Girls 13-18 division, Polina Anisimova from Port St. Lucie began the second round five shots behind Jayden Loyacona after Loyacona opened with a first round 74. However, Anisimova (152) managed to find her stride and went one under during the back nine on Sunday, to win the Girl’s 13-18 Division by three strokes. Congratulations to all the champions! The first event was held on Saturday at Links at Boynton Beach, while the second event was held on Sunday at Santa Lucia River Club. Over the weekend, the South Florida PGA Toptracer Prep Tour presented by Callaway held a one-day, 18-hole tournament at Osprey Point's Raven and Falcon courses. The tournament featured competitors ages 9-18, all vying for Prep Tour titles. Jack Zedar of Coral Gables put on an impressive performance, scoring five birdies and one eagle, which helped him clinch the first-place title in the Boy's 13-18 division. Meanwhile, Esha Nagalla of Pinecrest dominated the Girl's 13-18 division with a bogey-free front nine to help her secure a four-stroke victory. Gabriel Shabashkevich of Boca Raton shot a tournament-low 1-under, 71 with five birdies to earn the first-place title in the Boy's 11-12 division. Alyna Yensabai also had an excellent performance, carding a perfect even-par round to win the Girl's 11-12 division for her fifth top-five finish. In the 9-10 division, Victoria Frias of Parkland secured her third first-place finish of the season with a final score of 7-over, 79. Eli Widom from Boynton Beach won the Boy's division after shooting a 1-under 71, which included an eagle on the par-five 12th hole and a birdie on 18.
