Nip, Richard and Assis Win Medalist Tour Event at Old Marsh Golf Club
Palm Beach Gardens, FL - Angela Nip, Sean Richards and Bento Assis all claimed first place honors in their respective age divisions during the South Florida PGA Medalist Tour event at Old Marsh Golf Club.
During round one yesterday, the field was tested due to play being halted twice due to lighting in the area. In addition high winds and light showers made for a difficult round.
In the girl’s 13-18 division, Nip of Port Saint Lucie fired a 2-under 70 in round one, carding only two bogeys to go along with four birdies as she wrapped the day tied with Valetina Hurtado of Weston.
Nip continued her steady play into today, starting 1-under through the first nine holes, helping her to a nine shot win over Hurtado. The victory marks her first win of the 2022 season after five top-5 finishes already this season.
After carding two consecutive 1-under-par 71 rounds, Richards of Parkland beat out Mason Tome of West Palm Beach and Dylan Marrone of Parkland by five shots to win the boys 13-18 division. Over the two-day stretch, Richards made nine birdies while leading the field in pars or better with 31.
Setting the tournament low round of 3-under 69 in round one, Assis of Porto Alegre, Brazil carried his momentum into the final round, carding another 3-under 69. Assis claimed the win in the boys 11-12 division by three shots over runner-up, Tyler Foegen of Hobe Sound. Over the two-day stretch, Assis managed nine birdies and one eagle as he played the par-5, 17th hole 3-under-par.
