Sandridge Showdown: Lebrun, Lye, and Felton Dominate at Sandridge Medalist Tour Event
After the Winter Kick-Off set the tone for the South Florida PGA Junior Tour season, the Medalist Tour made its way to Vero Beach for its first regular event of the 2024 season at Sandridge Golf Club.
Alexander Weinberg of Boca Raton, the champion of the SFPGA Winter Kick-Off, entered the competition with impressive momentum. After carding two eagles in the opening round, Weinberg shot a tournament-low 2-under, 70, to lead the field after round one.
Emile Lebrun (76-71–147) and James Bradley (75-72–147) of Port Saint Lucie narrowed the distance to Weinberg as all three finished the weekend at 3-over, 147 to force a sudden-death playoff.
Weinberg (70- 77–147) opened the playoff with a bogey, leaving Bradley and Lebrun to play an additional playoff hole. Ultimately, Lebrun emerged victorious, sealing the win with a par to conclude play in the Boy's 13-18 division.
In the Girls' 13-18 division, Eva Lye from Naples started Sunday's round just one stroke behind Zoe Shamy (73-78–151). Lye caught fire during her back nine on Sunday to finish with two consecutive birdies and one stroke ahead of Shamy, Clara Ding, Alexandra Phung and Miriam Barcalova (77-74–151).
Determined through a scorecard playoff, Phung from Boca Raton, finished the tournament in second.
The 2023 Player of the Year for the Boy’s 11-12 Division, Zachary Felton, wasted no time picking up right where he left off last year. Felton built a nine-stroke lead on Sunday, to clinch the first-place title (79-80–159). Charles Sundermeier (81-87–168) came in second place.
Thank you to Bela Nagy, PGA, and his staff at Sandridge Golf Club for an incredible weekend!
The Medalist Tour will resume at Links at Boynton Beach on February 17-18.
