South Florida PGA Junior Tour Recognizes 2023 Award Recipients
The South Florida PGA Junior Tour has named five outstanding junior tour members award winners for the 2023 season.
The following players were awarded:
- Most Improved Player
- Fernanda Carrion and Nicholas Cecchini
- Ed Ficker Sportsmanship Award
- Dounia Bezzari and Alek Greer
- Don Law Service
- Hampton Beebe
The Most Improved Player award is given to a male and female who has shown perseverance and growth throughout the 2023 season. Nicholas Cecchini of Jupiter and Fernanda Carrion of Coral Gables received this recognition for their outstanding performances.
Carrion finished the 2022 season with three top-10 finishes and a scoring average of 81.50. In 2023, Carrion had a 77.66 scoring average, ten top-10 finishes and won the Brendan Cunningham Junior open, one of eight South Florida PGA Junior Tour Majors.
Cecchini ended his 2022 season with a scoring average of 82.5 and only two top-25 finishes. Cecchini made incredible progress in the 2023 season, finishing with six top-10 finishes and a 78.2 scoring average.
The Sportsmanship award is given to the male and female who display the best overall sportsmanship throughout the season, voted on by SFPGA staff members.
“These two players are always in a great mood no matter what they shot during the round and always aim to make everyone around them smile.” Junior Golf Coordinator Haley Dunn said. “It has been a pleasure to have these two on our Junior Tour.”
Dounia Bezzari of Vero Beach and Alek Greer of West Palm Beach were awarded the 2023 Sportsmanship Award based on their outgoing personalities, positivity and overall good rapport with others on and off the golf course.
Lastly, the Don Law Service Award is given to a player who is dedicated to giving back to their community.
“This player is not only a pleasure to be around but also has given back repeatedly to his community” Dunn explained.
Hampton Beebe of North Palm Beach was awarded the Don Law Service award for his ongoing efforts to give back to the community. In the past two years, Beebe has raised over $10,000 toward the South Florida PGA Foundation through his participation with the SFPGA Birdie Club.
