Lilly Riegger and Oscar Crowe Triumph at Callaway Medalist Tour Event
HOBE SOUND, Fla. - Players from the Callaway Medalist Tour participated in a two-day, 36-hole event at Hobe Sound Golf Club on Wednesday, July 17, and Thursday, July 18. Competitors battled not only against each other but also against high temperatures and thunderstorms to secure a win.
During round one, Abigail Smith of Port St. Lucie took the lead in the Girls’ 13-18 Division with an impressive performance, making four birdies and keeping a bogey-free scorecard for the first eight holes.
When asked about her strategy heading into round two, Smith said, “I just want to enjoy it, whatever happens, happens. I know I will remain proud of myself regardless of the outcome.”
Lilly Riegger of Fort Lauderdale was two shots behind Smith, ending round one tied for third, shooting a three-over par 75. Despite the challenging start, Riegger was determined to make a strong comeback in round two.
The Girls’ Division saw a thrilling conclusion with a one-hole playoff between Riegger and Ashley Balcom of Lighthouse Point. Demonstrating remarkable skill under pressure, Riegger sank a 27-foot putt for birdie to secure the win, finishing with a total score of 75-73-148.
“I wasn’t expecting to go into a playoff today,” says Riegger. “I was nervous going into it because I knew how tough my competition was.”
Balcom secured second place with a total score of 74-74-148.
Sebastian Eterovic of Coral Gables led the Boys’ 13-18 Division in the first round, making four birdies and ending with one-over par 73. With seven players tied for second place heading into round two, Oscar Crowe of Boca Raton was among them. Crowe also made four birdies in the first round, ending two-over par 74.
Halfway through round two, players faced torrential downpours but persevered to finish the day.
Crowe emerged victorious in the Boys’ Division, delivering an impressive final round with five birdies and finishing three-under par for a final score of 74-69-143.
When asked about his performance, Crowe said, “My putting was A1 today; I couldn’t ask for anything better.” He added, “The course was in great shape; I want to thank the staff for hosting us.”
Cole Laffere of Miami secured second place in a scorecard playoff with a final score of 75-72-147. Starting round two tied for ninth place, Laffere's exceptional bogey-free back nine propelled him to the runner-up spot.
