Garcia and Nebuta Ferry Earn Medalist Honors at Pointe West Country Club
Vero Beach, FL - The South Florida PGA Medalist Tour took on Pointe West Country Club this weekend for a two-day, 36-hole tournament.
After racking up three top-5’s already this year, Port Saint Lucie’s Ismael Garcia went wire-to-wire this weekend to close out his first win in the boys 13-18 division.
With the field’s only under-par round of 71 on Saturday, Garcia held off runner-up Aiden Miller of Palm Beach Gardens, despite Miller’s strong even-par 72 in the final round. Miller heated up quickly going 3-under through his first three holes, though eventually came up just two strokes shy following Garcia’s 2-over 74.
In the girls 13-18 division, Honorine Nebuta Ferry of West Palm Beach overcame a three-shot deficit entering the final round with a 2-under 70 on Sunday, seven strokes better than her opening round.
Finishing runner-up and three strokes behind Ferry was Katie Carman of Estero, shooting a strong final round even-par 72. Carman took advantage of calmer conditions Sunday as well, and finished six strokes better than her opening round 6-over 78.
This weekend’s Medalist event also doubled as one of five qualifiers for the South Florida Junior PGA Championship scheduled for June 13-14. With five qualifying spots available for the boys and 4 spots for the girls, the following juniors will tee it up at Stonebridge Country Club next month.
The advancing boys include: Wylie Inman of North Palm Beach, Hampton Beebe of West Palm Beach, Trevor Tingle of Miami, Rafael Frias IV of Parkland and Christian Villeux of Jupiter.
The advancing girls include: Addison Klonowski of Naples, Angela Nip of Port Saint Lucie, Honorine Nebuta Ferry of West Palm Beach and Polina Anisimova of Port Saint Lucie.
The South Florida PGA Medalist Tour is the premier tour on the South Florida PGA Junior circuit. The season will continue May 7-8 at Osprey Point Golf Course.
