South Florida PGA Prep Tour Juniors Take on Fairwinds Golf Course
Fort Pierce, FL - The South Florida PGA Prep Tour was back in action Sunday as the field of 69 Juniors took on Fairwinds Golf Course for another single-day, 18-hole event.
In the boys 13-18 division, Maximiliaan Govaerts of Weston finished with a 2-over 74, narrowly defeating runner-up Thomas Nevico of Boynton Beach by one stroke. Govaerts had five birdies on the day with back-to-back birdies coming at the 16th and 17th holes.
Continuing her dominant Prep Tour season in the girls 13-18 division was Ashley Balcom of Lighthouse Point, marking her third win this season, finishing Sunday with a 6-over 78 to win by six strokes.
In the boys 11-12 division, Champion Frank Muniz of Miami carded a 3-over round of 75, a round which included four birdies. Second place was determined by a scorecard playoff between Carson Lowe of West Palm Beach and eventual runner-up Hudson Fee of Fort Lauderdale, who both shot rounds of 5-over 77’s.
In the girls 11-12 division Bella Simoes of Aventura carded four birdies to shoot an even par round of 72, the lowest round of the tournament. Another scorecard playoff between Yool Her of Pembroke Pines and Sofia Macapagal of Orlando was held to determine the runner-up after both players finished with a 4-over 76. The title was eventually awarded to Her.
In the 9-10 division, Daniel Barcenas of Weston, Mateo Muniz of Wellington and Connor Christensen all participated in another scorecard playoff after shooting rounds of 10-over 82’s. Barcenas took the title with Muniz finishing runner-up. In the girls division, Champion Myla Kumar would shoot a 90 for a round of 18-over par.
