FAU High School Sweeps South Florida PGA High School Championship at Boca Grove
Boca Raton, FL - Florida Atlantic University High School boy’s and girl’s team swept the South Florida PGA East Coast High School Championship Friday at Boca Grove.

Starting the final round nine shots behind Ransom Everglades, the FAU boys managed a 3-under final round to take the Championship by nine shots over Boca High. FAU fired a two-day total of 3-over 294-285–579.
Leading the way for the Owls was junior Jack Quinn who wrapped the event at 1-under 72-71–141. Closely behind Quinn was Mateo Desmond who finished in a tie for fourth at even-par, while Jake Manelas and Vasili Gianakas both finished in a tie for 13th at 2-over.
Individually, senior Alex Heard of Boca High was the only player in the field to manage consecutive under-par rounds, capturing the individual title by two shots over Lorenzo Rodriquez of Belen Jesuit Prep. Over the two-day stretch, Heard carded only three bogeys to go along with nine birdies, completing the Championship at 5-under 69-70–139.
The only team to break 300 both days, the FAU girl’s team handled the field at Boca Grove, winning by 43 shots over Oxbridge Academy. Led by freshman Kayla Bryant who fired a tournament-low 8-under (68-68), FAU shot 287-287 over the 36 holes.
All four cards representing FAU, Bryant, Amelie Phung (71-73), Morgan Rodriguez (76-70) and Angelina Marie Guertin (72-76), finished in the top five individually. Valentina Marie Guertin also played for FAU but withdrew after the first round.
Bryant, Phung and Rodriguez each medaled first, second and third respectively and Ava Cavataio (70-77) from Oxbridge Academy finished in fourth place.
The SFPGA High School Championship hosted
23
teams from 16 schools from the south Florida area with a total of 109 competitors. The SFPGA Junior Tour will travel to the west coast next week for the West Coast High School Championship September 30-October 1 at Crown Colony Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers.
